Maciej Zdanowicz urodził się w Polsce w 1982 roku. Jest artystą intermedialnym i teoretykiem sztuki, pracującym na stanowisku adiunkta na Wydziale Sztuki Uniwersytetu Jana Kochanowskiego w Kielcach, gdzie prowadzi Pracownię Struktur Intermedialnych i Mechanizmów Widzenia oraz Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej ArtLAB. Obecnie pełni funkcję prodziekana ds. dydaktycznych i międzynarodowych. Autor kilkunastu wystaw indywidualnych, projektów kuratorskich, tekstów krytycznych i artykułów naukowych z zakresu historii sztuki nowoczesnej i współczesnej. Aktywnie promuje i rozwija kulturę i sztukę, m.in. koordynując starania miasta Kielce o tytuł Europejskiej Stolicy Kultury 2029 (w latach 2022-2023), będąc członkiem Rady Programowej Muzeum Narodowego w Kielcach (powołany przez Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego). Otrzymał nagrody i wyróżnienia (Stypendium Artystyczne Prezydenta Miasta Łodzi w 2017 r., wyróżnienie na I Ogólnopolskiej Wystawie Rysunku Studenckiego w Toruniu w 2008 r., nagrodę Miejskiej Galerii Sztuki w Łodzi na 23.

W latach 2009-2015 studiował historię sztuki (studia doktoranckie) w Instytucie Sztuki Polskiej Akademii Nauk w Warszawie, Polskiej Akademii Nauk w Warszawie. W 2015 roku uzyskał stopień doktora w dziedzinie sztuk plastycznych w Instytucie Sztuk Pięknych Uniwersytetu Jana Kochanowskiego. W 2022 roku Zdanowicz odbył staż naukowy w

Artist Statement:
Moja działalność artystyczna leży na przecięciu intermediów i mediów cyfrowych, badając możliwości zastosowania środków wyrazu artystycznego w procesie przekładalności ludzkiej percepcji i emocji. W centrum mojego zainteresowania leży doświadczenie przeciążenia sensorycznego - przytłaczającej skali bodźców, prowadzących do zmęczenia i irytacji w obliczu coraz bardziej agresywnej rzeczywistości. W miejscu tym posługuję się konwencją widzenia kolażowego, estetyką szumu i glitchu, obrazując jednoczesne sprzeczności przeżywanych stanów. Moja twórczość rekonstruuje autentyczne doświadczenia, emocje i wydarzenia, które głęboko mnie poruszają, służąc jako forma osobistej narracji.

Teraz moja sztuka staje się permanentną eksploracją i dokumentacją dynamicznie zachodzących wokół mnie zmian. W obecnych czasach skupiam się na istotnych kwestiach społecznych, próbując wejść w obszar doświadczenia drugiego człowieka. Stosowane przeze mnie środki wypowiedzi mają na celu uchwycenie kolizji czasu, miejsca, zdarzeń zarejestrowanych jako obrazy, dźwięki, faktury, temperatury i zapachy. Doznane wrażenia zmysłowe przekładam na język sprzeczności, doszukując się w nim sugestywności przekazu, potencjału subwersji.
Proces twórczy staje się swoistym badaniem, dotykaniem różnych czasów i przestrzeni, przyjmujących postać planu lub dziennika podróży. W ostatnim okresie to podróże przez kryzysy obecnych czasów: wojenne, migracyjne, klimatyczne, społeczne, niszczących życie, godność, umysły, stawiające pod znakiem zapytania poczucie pewności. Pozostaję u siebie, w tym specyficznym miejscu Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej, która wciąż dąży do zmiany, wielokrotnie jednak, o nieokreślonym kierunku. Ciągnie mnie do Ukrainy, do spotkań i współpracy z przyjaciółmi, wsparcia ich w trudnych chwilach, próbując doświadczyć chociaż ułamka tego, co przynosi im obecna rzeczywistość. W dokonywanej przeze mnie przewrotnej transformacji dokonuję przekształcenia tego, co surowe, brutalne, bolesne w delikatne, efemeryczne i miękkie, odzwierciedlając głęboką potrzebę stabilności i bezpieczeństwa. Poruszony w miejscu tym aspekt dążenia ku równowadze i stabilności głęboko we mnie rezonuje, stanowiąc jeden z ważnych filarów mojego życia. Jako artyście będącemu członkiem społeczności LGBT+ łatwiej jest mi wczuć się w potrzeby innych i je zrozumieć, gdyż doznawany przeze mnie stan lęku, odrzucenia stanowi na stałe element mojej codzienności.

Maciej Zdanowicz was born in Poland, 1982. He is an intermedia artist and art theorist who works as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Art at the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, where he runs the
Intermedia Structures and Mechanisms of Seeing Studio, as well as Center for Contemporary art ArtLAB. He is currently serving as a Vice Dean for Educational and International Affairs. He authorized several individual exhibitions, curatorial projects, critical texts, and scientific articles in modern and contemporary art history. Actively promotes and develops culture and art, including coordinating efforts of the city of Kielce for the title of European Capital of Culture 2029 (2022-2023), Program Board of the National Museum in Kielce (appointed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage). Zdanowicz received awards and honors (Artistic Scholarship of Lodz City Mayor in 2017, honorable mention in the I National Exhibition of Student Drawing in Torun in 2008, the prize of the City Art Gallery in Lodz at the 23rd Wladyslaw Strzeminski Competition- Fine Arts). He is a member of
several artistic and scientific international organizations, among them the editorial board of "Visual Studies" journal (at the Faculty of Fine Arts of St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria), the
ATINER Athens Institute for Education & Research (Arts, Humanities and Education Division - Arts and Culture Unit), The Polish Section of The International Association of Art Critics (AICA), Southern Graphic
Council International (SGCI). Zdanowicz is an external expert of the European Commission Executive Agency for Education, Culture and Audiovisual Sector and the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange.

From 2002 to 2007, he studied at the Faculty of Graphic and Painting, the Wladyslaw Strzeminski Academy
of Fine Arts in Lodz. From 2009 to 2015, he studied History of Art (doctoral studies) at the Institute of Art,
Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. In 2015, he obtained a doctoral degree in Fine Arts at the Institute of
Fine Arts of the Jan Kochanowski University of Kielce. In 2022, Zdanowicz completed a research internship at
the College of Liberal & Creative Arts at West Liberty University (West Virginia, USA).

Artist Statement:
My artistic activity lies at the intersection of intermedia and digital media, where I explore expressive solutions to touch human perception and emotions. The core of my work revolves around the experience of sensory overload—an overwhelming barrage of stimuli that manifests as fatigue and irritation in the face of an increasingly aggressive reality. I employ collage techniques, and the aesthetics of noise and glitches depict the simultaneous contradictions of these states. My art reconstructs authentic experiences, emotions, and events that deeply move me, serving as a form of personal narrative.
Art is a journey—a reflection of my nomadic lifestyle that has been a constant since childhood. I spent years searching for my place and in finally discovering my own identity. My art is an ongoing exploration and documentation of the dynamic changes around me. These days, I focus on relevant social issues, trying to enter the area of the other person's experience. My artistic expressions capture the collision of time, place, and occurrences recorded as images, sounds, textures, and scents. I translate the sensory experience into the language of contradiction, looking for the suggestiveness of the message and the potential for subversion.

The creative process becomes a kind of research, touching different times and spaces, taking the form of an itinerarium or travel diary. In the recent period, these are journeys through the current crises: war, migration, climate, and social, destroying lives, dignity, and minds, challenging the sense of certainty. I stay at home in Central and Eastern Europe, which has always been striving for change but with an undefined direction. I am drawn to Ukraine to meet and work with friends, to support them in difficult times, and to try to experience at least a fraction of what the current reality brings them. In the perverse transformation I make, I transform what is harsh, brutal, and painful into what is delicate, ephemeral, and soft, reflecting a deep need for stability and security. The aspect of striving for balance and stability in the site resonates deeply within me, one of my life's essential pillars. As an artist who is a member of the LGBT+ community, it is easier for me to empathize with and understand the needs of others, as the anxiety rejection I experience is a permanent part of my everyday life.
